Little signs of hope.
So I went to the first showing of iron man today. After the movie let out I observed people holding doors open for each other, what seems alot more then usual, to what I see on any other given day.
I don't know if it because it is a three day weekend, but I have not seen that happen on other three day weekends, so I would have to say it was very unusual. In a very good way. Cause when I start seeing more door holding happening it means for a few seconds those people were not thinking about themselves. And when I see alot more people than usual, doing it, well then I can't help but hope that that keeps increasing in size and number.
Did I hold a door open for someone? You bet your ass I did.
Now for the rant. :P
I am an old comic buff who's particular major was marvel with a minor in D.C., until all the independants got more popular, with better artists and writers, then I got into those types more.
I remember stan lee once said in an interview that any of the origins of any super hero of marvel comics, could stand up to plot in today's world.....and he was actually right. EXCEPT when put that into practice. Sadly it was not because he was wrong. This is because once the satan monkeys get their hands on something good, they have to twist it and warp it.
The movie actually mostly followed the origin of iron man with the exception of a few points. and they did this in spider man's origin as well. In iron man they shifted the location and ethnicity of the comic to fit modern day reality to get everyone to think a certain way. in the comic, location and the warmonger were chinese. but we can't have that in today's world cause we have monetary ties with china at the moment, as well as other ties.
So can anyone guess where they relocated the setting to fit today's perceptions, and what ethnicity was made to look like the bad guys?
If you can't guess, well then go back to sleep mr. or mrs. sleepy head.
The original suit in the comic had a core energy source, like the movie's suit did, but that's where the simularity ended. In the comic the suit expelled magnetic energy so that everything he directed the energy to went flying, and likewise that is how he flew. Then he developed what what is seen in the movie, later.
The same with spider man's peter parker, who in the comic does not shoot out webs from himself, rather he made his web shooters, search light, tracking bugs, and armpit glider wings with his advanced science student knowledge. They killed a whole other deeper, and more importantly, "signifigant" aspect to the charcter known as peter parker. Which also made the movie peter parker/spiderman kind of boring. There was a whole other layer cause he used those devices to be more than one step ahead of the bad guys.
No doubt in my mind comics were hijacked before even the birth of spiderman and such. Matter of fact part of the proof is when they passed all those laws saying all comics have to have a stamp of approval, and if you look at comics you will see some form or another of the stamp on them....today.
There was actually a big crackdown on comics back in the day by the government. The reason was for a time comics were free, and people used them to point out what the establishment was really doing. Eventually the satan monkeys caught wind of it and lowered the hammer, but not before the damage was done.
Alot of the artists who told the man to kiss it, got blackballed much like the writers did during the mccarthy era. The result of this was a good number of underground comics coming to life. Eventually as these comics grew in popularity they got swallowed up in partnerships or sold out to mainstream, or became mainstream themselves.
All indications in my observations is that they basicly got swallowed up by the establishment, by hook or by crook.
Just another lesson to me about how these greedy little children with more money than they can ever spend in a lifetime, feel that they have to do this to e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.
